Willie J. Laws at the Back Page!Aug 10, 2013
Texas guitar slinger, songwriter, and vocalist Willie J Laws creates music that is a soulful mixture of South Texas Blues and classic R & B with some Funk blended in. Some of his greatest influences are many and varied. Here are just a few. Willie’s family, jazz saxophonist Ronnie Laws and Flutist Hubert Laws, a distant relative Billy Preston was an influence as well as Jimmy Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Eric Clapton, The Three Kings: Freddie, Albert and B.B, Etta James, Bobby Womack, Johnnie Taylor, Bobby Bland, Sylvester Stewart, Bootsy Collins, Larry Carlton and Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. With the infusion of these diverse influences Willie has created his own sound, which will grab you from the inside out. “Think Robert Cray meets BB King, visiting Jimmy Hendrix”.
A veteran performer, Willie J Laws engages and involves the audience with easy charm. To accompany him, Willie always uses the best performers. The Band performs with a solid foundation of pocket grooves. On bass is “The Duke” Malcolm Stuckey, a chameleon playing the funkiest of funk, r&b, rock, blues, jazz, you name it, and on Drums is the well known and outstanding, Ephraim Lowell, who played for years with Roomful of Blues.
